Bonjour! our first blog entry
_of_pic030.jpg)

WELCOME to the first entry in our Rancho Escargot blog. Fall has arrived in our little 10th century hamlet of Magnagues, located in the commune of Carennac, and beautifully situated high above the Dordogne River.
Martine & I have been living here for just over 2 years now -- while mankind has inhabited this region know as the Haut-Quercy for over 450,000 years (oui, we are definitely the newcomers!). The area is home to both Cro-Magnon & Neanderthal man; the finest prehistoric cave paintings ever created and pristine medieval villages that transport you back to the time of the Knights Templar and the Crusades and still remain as they were ... we'll have no end of stories to share!
That's the plan of this blog. We want to share our home, lives and adventures with you as we continue our discovery of the Haut-Quercy -- its history, people, culinary delights, and our lives here at Rancho Escargot.
So please, subscribe to our little weblog and we'll promise to keep you up to date with our misguided lives & adventures in France. Your comments on our blog will be most welcome. And, for those of you who visited us at Rancho Escargot in 2007 please post your impressions too. Merci!
a bientôt!! Jack

An excellent first blog. I enjoyed it. I am kinda hoping that I am the first comment.
If I could make one recommendation I would like to encourage you to add a map with circles & arrows or something so we can get an even better idea of where you eat escargot.

You two are the best. This blog is a great idea and a terrific way to share the fun "goings on" at the world famous Rancho Escargot ... especially when we can't be there to join you!
We love ya ... and LOVE the logo!

We found Rancho Escargot after journeying by train from Paris. What an extraordinary find! This delightful B&B, is a superb base to explore the medieval villages of France's Lot department. Rocmadour was a highlight along with learning to add red wine to one's lunchtime soup and noisily slurp it up with great relish in the best traditions of French truckdrivers. Rancho Escargot gets a tres bon five star recommendation from the Keadys! We can't wait to return.

Jack and Martine, The US is calling for your smiling faces. This blog is nice and brings back all the great memories of our visit. But most of all, we miss just hanging with you and learning about France (and of course eating foie gras and drinking wine). Hope all is well at Rancho Escargot. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Reading your blog makes us relive our wonderful time with you. We fondly recall some of the simple things we experienced such as those long walks on the trails through the woods behind Rancho Escargot and the many meals we had together as we sampled confit de canard at picturesque restaurants throughout the Dordogne Valley. Fabulous hosts, lovely location, delicious food and drink! Loved every minute of our stay!

Greetings from the Canucks. We have traveled the world over and the experiences we cherish the most are those like we enjoyed with the Tobins. Forget the overrated and overrun tourist sites, it’s the better life of a peaceful countryside, friendly folks and fantastic dining that we prefer. That adventure included fighting off a wooly mammoth with some cavemen buddies while en-route to the cave paintings of Lascaux.
Many thanks for your hospitality. Theo and Sandra.
