reflections and observations ...

                                 (La Dordogne Rivière 2009)

This past week for me has been one of reflection as we start 2009. I know this is a time we should all be looking forward but the immediate future looks, to me, far from promising. Our global financial & geopolitical fronts are in complete chaos and so much of the world is expecting incumbent President Obama to snatch us out of harm’s way while gently getting us all back on the road to prosperity & global peace … overnight. Yeah right!

I’m afraid too many of us look to him as a Moses figure capable of parting this red sea of financial misappropriation and leading us  back into our comfort zones of over-consumption. Don’t misunderstand, I am a complete proponent and supporter of agents for change … here in France, President Sarkozy, and in the U.S., President Elect Obama are taking both countries in better directions and I hope, through their examples, many other leaders of the free world will follow.

Hopefully, within this ‘global village’ in which we all live, it is appreciated that the days of the quick fix are most probably over and the path ahead will require a significant amount of sacrifice on all our parts to improve.

It is not my intention to turn this blog into a political platform but here in France nobody keeps their opinions to themselves and in 2009 I’m reminded that not only am I a product of the 1960’s – I am turning 60!

Now, if you want a brief respite from the problems of our planet why not give thought to a visit here for an escape? Hey, at least we can say it's a fair and reasonable 'bail-out' plan that is without question worthy of serious consideration. It would certainly help both our local economy and your peace of mind.

We promise to keep the pleasures simple and the accordion music .... well, VERY HOT!

 à bientôt, Jack

I will attend to your call and relax a little bit around here...nice blog and webpage! I was just relaxing a bit searching for good stuff about the Dordogne and the Lot and I arrived here. Loved the B&B, the spirit, the logo! I've been very briefly around and I can't wait to come back and, who knows?, be your guest at Rancho Escargot. I think that, if I had to choose a place to settle down and enjoy life, that would be it Congrats and a hopeful year for all of us!
