Bienvenue President Obama!

TODAY, the McBain’s invited us over to their home in Martel to watch the inauguration of President Obama and to celebrate what was a very important moment in history.

Patricia, Oscar and Daniel's favorite acronym for their family unit is the ‘POD’.

They are expat Americans from SFO, where Patricia was an Oakland city planner (she is now teaching English to French children) and Dan, an architect, who now purchases & restores medieval homes in Martel. Pat & Dan came to France about five years ago, in large part to give their son Oscar a broader educational experience through life abroad. Their 'POD' exemplifies the very best in expat American families, completely integrating and contributing to their local community while maintaining important American virtues sometimes forgotten like: equality, optimism and independent thinking.

So while we watched the inauguration thanks to a CNN.com live feed projected on a 16th century living room wall, in rural southwestern France, there was a collective feeling that this moment was the most positive America has experienced in many years. And therefore, cause for some serious celebration!

Today represented the American societal equivalent of bringing down the Berlin Wall. Can Americans around our World hold their heads a little higher today? YES WE CAN!
                                                                                               à bientôt, Jack

ps. Patricia & Dan - the Obama rouge was a very nice touch. merci!
